Ross Brawn praises team’s approach for strong Chinese GP: Formula 1 News
Mercedes’ team principal, Ross Brawn, has claimed that the team approached things in a different way for the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, which led to its best performance of the season until now. The team finished the race with 14 points, as both drivers
Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg ended up in top eight.
Brawn stated, “We did not rush back to the factory after the Malaysian Grand Prix, but I stayed here with the engineers and it gave us a good couple of days to think about things and we changed our approach a little bit, which I think helped.”
He further added, “The approach we had evolved was very much based around the tyres we had last year or the last few years, and perhaps with these tyres and these cars, we needed to rethink about how we approach things in terms of set-up.”
The German car manufacturers had a difficult time at the start of the season, as they failed to live up to the expectations of their fans. Both drivers in the team had a terrible outing during the Australian GP, as they had to retire from the race due to
different reasons.
There were many claims of improvement in Malaysia, but things didn’t work out for Mercedes as planned. The team had a lot of cooling issues and the rear wing of the car didn’t function properly, which cost the drivers a lot of time during the qualifiers.
Although Schumacher was able to score the first points of the season for the team at Sepang, the Petronas-sponsored-team was not pleased with the overall results. The third race of the season was also expected to bring the same results for the team, as there
was very little time to make changes in the car.
However, Mercedes managed to get all their systems working fine ahead of race day and got a very positive result.
According to Brawn, the team had a very smooth outing in China, but admitted that Schumacher’s car had few technical issues. He claimed that a new rear wing for the Turkish GP will resolve the problem for the veteran German, who will then be able to express
his true potential.
