Ross Brawn refuses to compare Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP boss, Ross Brawn, has recently refused to draw a direct comparison between the team’s drivers, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.
Brawn added that Rosberg has not been the strongest driver in the start of his career in Formula 1 but he seemed to be improving in his performance in the last couple of years. In addition, he said that Rosberg is a very strong part of the team at this moment,
as he has made good progress in the 2011 season so far.
The Petronas-sponsored team boss went on to mention, “Nico is a reference that’s in a little bit of a vacuum because he has not come up against the strongest drivers on a regular basis in the past. But he has matured and improved a lot over the last couple
of years, so he’s a very strong reference. I don’t have any way of calculating that equation. It’s a comparison in a vacuum.”
He also talked about the seven-time World Champion and said that Schumacher is still a competitive driver in Formula 1 and that he can show a very strong performance on the grid, if the team provides him the perfect car.
Brawn said, “You can play that comparison game any way you like. Where is Michael compared to where he was? Is the fact that Nico out qualifies him more often than not a demonstration that Michael is a bit slower than he was or that Nico is an exceptionally
quick driver?”
Mercedes GP kicked off a disappointing 2011 Formula season with both their drivers unable to make a strong run on the grid compared to the other competitive teams. In the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, Schumacher bounced back on the grid following his
worst start in the season.
He scored decent points for the team and finished his race in the fourth place. After the race the team driver was confident for the remainder of 2011 Formula 1 season.
After getting very close to the top runners in the Montreal race weekend, the 42-year-old driver is looking forward to a podium place finish in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix which will take place on June 26, in Europe.
