Ross Brawn refuses to talk about Schumacher’s contract with Mercedes GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has said that it is not the right time to discuss about Michael Schumacher’s contract with the side beyond the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He also mentioned that he is happy and satisfied with his drivers’ line-up in the ongoing season. However, he said he does not want to say anything about Schumacher’s contract extension with the team right now.
After a disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, the seven-time world champion announced that he might not take part in any race after the 2012 season. He also mentioned that he is looking to work with Mercedes as a brand ambassador.
The Mercedes boss has recently said that the team will talk to him at the right time and get the final decision about his Formula 1 race career.
Brawn added, “No. There was absolutely no reason to drive that speculation. The situation has not changed. I am very happy with our two drivers – they are not the reason we are not winning races. At the right time we will talk about it, but right now would
make no sense.”
Apart from that, there were rumours about the 42-year-old driver that he wanted to extend the deal with his current team. The team boss dismissed these speculations and added that this is not the right time to talk about it.
He went on to mention, “Both our drivers have contracts at the moment and our priority is to make the car better. We definitely have another year with Michael and if with next year’s car we can get the results we want, then I see no reason why we shouldn’t
go on. But at the moment there are no talks.”
Schumacher’s return to Formula 1 after a three-year retirement proved not so good for him, as he was unable to impress on the grid until the Canadian Grand Prix. However, in the Montreal race weekend, the Mercedes driver showed a much better performance
and took fourth place for the team.
After a successful Montreal Grand Prix, Schumacher is looking forward to get better results from the upcoming Valencia GP, taking place on June 26, 2011 in Europe.
