Ross Brawn says Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes is not for money – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that Lewis Hamilton’s move from McLaren to their team is not because of money as they didn’t offer him any extra salary.
Hamilton has recently announced that he is going to join the Brackley based team in the next season as Nico Rosberg’s teammate while the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher’s future in the sport is still uncertain.
Meanwhile, the British driver has been surrounded by many rumours that he has planned to move to the Silver Arrows just because he was offered more money from there as compared to his current team and they have put no restriction over his personal sponsors.
However, Brawn has completely discharged all the speculations and has asserted that the 2008 world champion has made the decision to join their squad because he wants to take the new challenge to build a competitive team while he said that they have not
offered him any additional money.
“There is a competitive market for drivers and Lewis is as competitive as anyone else in that respect,” Brawn told Sky Sports News. “But Lewis didn't come here because we offered more money, because we didn't. Lewis came here because he met the people that
were involved in the project, he became excited about the project, and Lewis will be part of creating that competitive car.”
In addition, he said that the 27-year-old will have to work very hard with the team engineers so as to develop a car which suits him on track and to create a better understanding about its parts and the design. He also said that Hamilton’s input will play
an important role in developing a race winning car.
“So I think we can create a winning racing car and I think Lewis will be a vital part of creating that racing car here,” he added.
Besides, he said that the Briton is a great racing driver and is capable enough of winning the world championship titles so they are keenly waiting for him in their team and are confidently looking forward to make their mark stronger in the world of F1.
