Ross Brawn says Mercedes GP targeting a strong start to 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has said that his team is targeting a strong to the 2012 Formula 1 season following their average 2011 year.
The team is busy and focusing on their next year’s car in order to have a positive start to the championship.
Brawn added that he is hopeful of taking a less problematic start to the 2012 F1 season, as they are making their next year’s car more competitive as compared to MGP-W02.
The Petronas-sponsored team boss talked about the 2011 Formula 1 season and mentioned that it is fact they had a difficult start to the current season, as their car was not working in a proper manner. In addition, he stated that both of the drivers, Michael
Schumacher and Nico Rosberg had some core issues with the car.
Brawn commented, “We had some cooling issues at the beginning which were unexpected. We had some problems with rear-wing performance which I remember particularly seemed to affect Michael [Schumacher], and some other fundamental issues with the car which
cost us a lot of time in the first half of the season because we had to get all those things sorted before we could start running properly.”
He went on mention, “They’ve been progressing strongly, we’ve progressed strongly but we’ve had that gap which we’ve never managed to cut down. But at least we’ve kept the gap.”
Brawn further added that they will try their best to take the start to the next year without those mistakes, which they made throughout the season so far. He continued that they will focus totally on performance from the very first test of the 2012 Formula
1 season.
The Mercedes GP team took a below par start to the ongoing season. Both of the drivers were unable to perform well at the racetracks in the initial races of the season. Despite having some issues in the car, Rosberg tried his best to put his team on a high
note in order to get better position in the 2011 championship.
On the other hand, Schumacher struggled a lot with his W02 car and made improvements in terms of performance race-by-race.
Let’s see whether the team take less problematic start to the next season or not.
