Ross Brawn says Mercedes have reduced gap to top running teams of 2011 Formula 1 season
Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn is hopeful for the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season, as his team has overcome the gap from the current top running teams in terms of lap time in the Hungarian Grand Prix recently.
After the 2011 Hungarian race weekend, the Petronas-sponsored team is at the fourth place with 80 points in the 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ championship. However, the team boss said that they still have a big gap in terms of points from the top running
teams of the ongoing season at the moment.
Brawn also stated that they are still trying very hard for getting better results in the second part of the season.
Talking to reporters, Brawn mentioned, “Interestingly we kind of do an analysis after each race and generally we're clawing it back, slowly - obviously not as quick as we would like because I think there's pretty intense competition at the front so they're
working ferociously to improve their situation and we're also trying to catch up.”
He went on to add, “But in terms of what we call normalised laptime, where you take account of tyres, fuel, all sort of things, we have reduced the gap, just not enough yet. We are about six months out of phase.”
Mercedes GP team took part in the 2011 Formula 1 season with hopes of getting better results in the season. They are still unable to finish a race on the podium, as the other 2011 Formula 1 teams are much stronger as compared to them.
In the recently held Budapest race, the team driver Nico Rosberg had a close fight with both of the Toro Rosso drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari and finished his race at the ninth place in the end.
His teammate Michael Schumacher was unable to finish his race in Hungary. Due to having a gearbox issue in his MGP-W02 car, he retired from the Grand Prix after competing 26 laps.
The Mercedes team will take part in the next Belgium Grand Prix on August 28, 2011 after coming back from the summer break.
Let’s see how both of the drivers manage their race at the Spa racetrack in August.
