Ross Brawn says Michael Schumacher is the greatest racing driver of this century – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that Michael Schumacher is undoubtedly the greatest racing driver of this century after the record championship holder announced his retirement at Suzuka.
Schumacher has recently said that he is going to retire from F1 at the end of this season following the news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Brackley based team in 2013.
It will be interesting to know that Brawn has been with the legendary driver during all his seven world championships. Moreover, he has paid tribute to the legend for all his contributions towards the team and has said that the veteran German driver will
definitely have a key role in any of their future success.
“Well I think he's the greatest racing driver of this century,” Brawn said. “And I was very privileged to work with Michael from the very beginning. Obviously I had some fantastic times, tough times, but also very successful times. I think Michael brought
a lot to the team in this second period that people don't see; huge contribution behind the scenes. We haven't achieved what we wanted to achieve together and that's frustrating but I think what we do achieve in the future Michael will have made a contribution
to it. So for me personally, the greatest racing driver of this century.”
Furthermore, the head of Mercedes motorsport, Norbert Haug has also praised the iconic driver and has said that he could have claimed victories in this season if he had not faced any technical issues in his car.
In addition, Haug said that he is really impressed by Schumacher’s contributions towards the team and expressed his immense gratitude towards him for all his efforts. He also said that they have not been able to achieve what they had planned for. Nonetheless,
they have the foundations to achieve greatness in which the seven-time world champion has played a crucial part.
It is to be noted that that the 43-year-old is the only driver in the history of the sport who has claimed 91 grands prix victories and he has said that he is not feeling any kind of disappointment over his retirement and is extremely pleased with his overall
achievements.
