Ross Brawn says Sebastian Vettel’s greatest challenge will be to race in a slower car – Formula 1
Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn has challenged the double championship holder Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing to prove his world-class driving skills in a car not as fast as Red Bull.
Vettel won his second championship title at the recently held Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit, placing him in the league of one of the greatest drivers to have lived to date. With 6 outstanding race wins and 12 pole positions in the on-going season, the
German with his consistent and flawless performance has clearly proved that his domination is difficult to beat.
The true test of his driving skills will be in a car that is not very fast. Up until now, the 24-year-old German has driven the fastest car and hence has had a clear advantage over all the other drivers. It is only when he drives a less fast car, and continues
to dominate in the same fashion that he has been doing, that he will prove to the world how great a driver he is.
“For Sebastian, what will come now, which will be an interesting phase of his career, will be when he has not got the best car,” Brawn is reported to have said while speaking to Autosport.com. “I think you have a fantastic driver in the best car, and that
combination is unbeatable. It will be interesting to see Sebastian's role, Sebastian's influence, Sebastian's position when perhaps he does not have the best car, he has to make it the best car, and has to create the best car.”
Vettel is currently at the peak of his career, and the youngest Formula 1 driver to achieve back-to back title wins. He is enjoying a place that not many drivers get to enjoy.
After proving himself at Red Bull, with the fastest car, maybe Vettel now decides to take his career to another level and show that he is capable of driving in a not so fast car and still topping, Brawn said.
In the past, we saw the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher making a shift from Mercedes to Ferrari in order to assist the latter to turn into a competitive team. Maybe Vettel makes a similar move sometime in the future.
Let’s wait and see what plans does Vettel have for his career.
