Ross Brawn says despite of achievements Mercedes is looking towards improvements – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says that they are in high spirits with some of their achievements in the current season.
He said that they have attained more points than they had in the previous 2011 Formula 1 season.
Brawn said that in the current season they made it to some very strong podiums. They want to have more achievements in the latter half of the current season. Currently, before the summer break, Mercedes was at the 5th place in the constructors’ championship
with 106 points after team Ferrari who were at 189 points.
Brawn said, “I think we are pleased with some of the achievements this year. We’ve won a race and had some strong podiums, and we’ve scored more points than we’d done this time last year. But, of course, we also feel that we are not quite where we want to
be in terms of consistent competitiveness.”
He added that they are working on improving the performance of their team and their main target is to make the team more competitive. Therefore, it is expected that targeting such an improvement will result in improved performance of the team in the second
half of the current 2012 season.
“We are still working on strengthening the team, strengthening the designs to be more competitive in the future,” he said.
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is struggling with his performance in the current season. He was retired 6 times from the 11 races he started. The German driver has a very strong record in Formula 1. He has remained champion for seven times in his career,
however he currently holds 12th place in the drivers’ championship.
Nico Rosberg, the other driver for Mercedes, has not been able to show consistent performance in the current season despite winning the Chinese Grand Prix. In the last Hungarian Grand Prix held on July 29, 2012 Rosberg was only able to make it at the 10th place
after starting the race at 13th grid place. At the moment, he only holds 6th place in the drivers’ championship and will have to show a lot of improvement if he wants to challenge for the championship.
