Ross Brawn says he will be happy if Mercedes qualify in top six – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Mercedes GP boss Ross Brawn has recently updated the media that the 2011 qualifying sessions are quite tough but he will be happy if his team qualifies in top six in the remaining races of the season.
After attending all pre-season tests, the team admitted that, they need more work to get its new MGP-W02 car up to the required levels of speed.
He added that the field is looking very competitive with Red Bull Racing duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. However, Mercedes team is still thinking how to get close to Red Bull, as they made impressive run during Q1, this morning.
Brawn said, “But I think there is a gaggle of teams behind that, and whoever does the best job is going to be the next team up. There is a group, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and us, and whoever does the best job this afternoon will head up the next group.”
He is satisfied regarding working of their car’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System. He further added, he is confirmed that he is moving on with its best package, but they need some efforts on putting everything together, over the season.
He went on to say, “This morning was very messy again in terms of our session. There are little glimpses of what the car can do but too many technical problems to realise the best of it.”
He told the media, no doubt it is very difficult to work with a lot of systems together at the same time, but it is same for all Formula 1 teams, so Mercedes team should have get used to it.
It is a big challenge for the Mercedes team to win the 2011 title because they are using some advanced features for the first time. But the team has a lot of experience with KERS, through its previous years.
