Ross Brawn says planning the best setup is key for success – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG team principal, Ross Brawn has said that planning for the best car setup is the key for success in the races ahead.
During the last season, the Brackley based team could hardly test run their car before the first race. However, in this year they have enjoyed the most reliable pre-season testing programme.
Furthermore, they have emerged as one of the most competitive teams in this season with their innovative DRS-activated F-duct device which gives boost in car’s top pace on track and provides the driver with an advantage.
At present, they are at fifth place in the constructors’ standings with 37 points. Moreover, they are 6 points ahead of Sauber-Ferrari and 8 points behind Ferrari.
Where on one side the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes expressed that tyre management is crucial for winning and criticised the new generation of Pirelli tyres. On the other hand, his teammate and compatriot, Nico Rosberg asserted
completely different remarks and said that this season’s tyres couldn’t have been better.
Besides, Brawn said that to predict the conditions of the race day and to plan the setup of the car in accordance with them is the most significant factor as no alteration in the setup can be made after the qualifying on Saturday.
“We can't modify the setup between qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday,” Brawn said. “And they are very different challenges, especially with this year's tyres. It's one thing to get the car to be fast on one lap and quite another to make it fast
and consistent over 70.”
He also said that to make projection about the race conditions is not an easy job. Nevertheless, he said that the teams which will be successful in making the essential predictions can earn a major advantage over other rivals in the approaching races.
“Whoever can anticipate what will be required for the race and come to a compromise - maybe to the detriment of grid position - should have a decisive advantage in the race. But it's not easy to anticipate what happens on Sunday,” he said.
