Ross Brawn talks against the unpredictable nature of the current F1 season – Formula 1 news
Ross Brawn has said that Formula 1 should not allow unpredictable results to mask true form.
The season has been unprecedented in its unpredictability or randomness for results. For the first seven races of the season, there was equal number of winners which clearly shows the high level of unpredictability that has never been seen before in the
history of the sport.
The reason is several for this situation, but Brawn and some others believe that the sport should not go down that road. The Mercedes team principal feels that the sport could lose some of its attraction if the season continues to be just as random as it
has been in the first half of the season.
He said, “What we cannot have in motorsport is a randomness where you don't know who is going to win, and that you could work really hard to improve the car but your car doesn't suit the conditions and you are not competitive. That is not where we want to
be.”
He added that there should be some elements of unpredictability but that can be exciting as well but it will start to fade away if it gets too much of this. He gave the analogy of fishing to explain that the great thing about fishing is that even a beginner
can come along and catch a huge fish because there is randomness to it and that is what makes it fun but it does not make it a good spectator sport.
Brawn said that he wants guys to race each other and want them to give the leaders of the championship a competition. He does not want his team drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg to be stuck in the midfield like they are at the moment. But he thinks
that they are beginning to understand their tyres and will get competent soon.
He said, “There is a pattern emerging, and a trend emerging, as we all get more competent with the tyres. I suspect that is what will happen and, as long as it does happen, that is fine. But what we don't want is the randomness.”
The F1 action resumes from a month-long break next weekend and Mercedes will be hoping to put up a better show in the next Belgian Grand Prix.
