Ross Brawn wants Michael Schumacher to stay at Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has said that he wants Michael Schumacher to stay with the team and to continue his career in Formula 1.
Schumacher’s contract with the Brackley based team is going to end at the conclusion of this season and it is not yet decided that whether he is going to carry on or not. Nevertheless, he has recently asserted that he intends to prolong his career in the
sport as he is not satisfied with his play until now.
Meanwhile, Brawn said that he is expecting the veteran German driver to decide about his future during the summer and before the Belgian Grand Prix. In addition, he said that he would like the record championship holder to continue racing after the current
season.
“We are focused on Michael for as long as it takes and whatever it takes,” Brawn told the Independent. “Then we will see where we are elsewhere. We haven't discussed [a contract extension] but he enjoys himself and if he enjoys himself, why not? Inevitably
you come to a point where you say, 'Let's have the discussions', because these things can sometimes take some time.”
The seven-time world champion made his comeback in F1 couple of years back. Although, he struggled during the last two seasons, however, he has shown some convincing performances in this year until now. He secured an incredible third podium finish in the
European GP held at Valencia Street Circuit after setting off from the 12th grid slot which has been his best performance since his return. Additionally, he came 7th in the British GP at Silverstone Circuit after taking a start from third
place in the grid.
At present, he is standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 23 points along with the Brazilian driver, Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Besides, he is ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber and behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
Over and above, he expressed that he is focussing to perform well in the approaching races.
“I am not yet satisfied,” Schumacher said. “For I have achieved too little in the second part [of my career]. I'm still highly motivated. For how long, only time will tell.”
