Ross Fisher and James Morrison face trouble at the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Ross Fisher was angry for being penalised by one stroke in the final round of the ISPS Handa Wales Open, when he was just one stroke behind the leading position.
The 31-year-old Englishman is also in a harsh mood for facing a £6,000 fine. He was penalised for slow play at The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
He played amazingly in Wales, and shot 70, 66, 71 and 73 in the four-day tournament, finishing tied for the sixth position with Paul McGinley.
Fisher is not the only professional player in professional golf history, who has faced penalty. James Morrison also faced a fine penalty, for making unappealing comments on the Twitter.
“Thanks Celtic Manor. Dump. One more round then can’t get over that bridge quick enough,” Morrison said.
However, he was unhappy for what he said against the tournament and its officials. He apologised for the comments he made on Twitter later.
“Us as players are very grateful for all the support. Very sorry for comment. Really want to apologise – I was very hot when I finished and didn’t mean it in that context. Sorry to all involved”.
In return, the ISPS Handa Wales Open Director said: “James wishes to apologise to Sir Terry Matthews (Celtic Manor’s owner) and everyone at the Resort for all of the offence caused. The European Tour will be taking disciplinary action against the player”.
Morrison finished tied for the 57th leaderboard position. He shot an 8-over 292 in the four-day European Tour event and carded several double-bogeys.
In the first round, he carded three double bogeys, one bogey and one par at all. He was in a danger zone for making a 6-over par scores at the end of the day.
He shot three birdies and a double-bogey in the second round and kept himself from missing the cut. After under par scores, he again dropped to a lower position on the leaderboard for making a 1-over par and a 2-over par in the third and fourth round respectively.
The Wales Open has now become popular for imposing a penalty on a pro star. Both the players who faced stroke and monetary penalty, said while speaking to the media that they will try not to perform the same act again.
