Ross McCormack completes switch to Leeds United from Cardiff City
Leeds United today confirmed that they have completed the transfer of Ross McCormack from fellow Football League championship outfit Cardiff City. The striker has joined Leeds on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
After agreeing personal terms and successfully undergoing a medical exam, the 24-year-old officially signed this morning before joining his new team-mates on their trip south to face Watford in the league tomorrow.
'Good quality'
Leeds manager Simon Grayson told of his delight at snapping up the Scotland international. He told the club’s official website that: "Ross is a player of good quality. He's proved in the Championship he can score goals and hopefully he will continue that with us."
McCormack has been with Cardiff for two years after joining from Scottish Premier League club Motherwell in a deal worth £110,000. He went on to play in 85 matches in total for the Bluebirds and has netted 28 goals for the club.
The fomer Rangers player’s first season in Wales was particularly successful, as he struck 23 times in 44 matches. That strong form attracted the interest of several outfits who were then in the English Premier League. Portsmouth publicly said that they were keen to secure his services, while a bid of £4m from Hull City was rejected by Cardiff.
Fell behind
However, McCormack could not keep the success of his first season going as he struggled in the last campaign with form and injuries. As a result, he fell behind other players in manager Dave Jones’ plans. After the arrival of Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City, he fell further down the pecking order with Jay Boothroyd and Michael Chopra already ahead of him.
Meanwhile, Cardiff midfielder Gavin Rae has also been holding talks with Leeds over a potential move, the Bluebirds confirmed earlier this week.
