Ross Pearson enters UFC 141 against Junior Assuncao – Preview: UFC 141
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to host UFC 141 on December 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada where top mixed martial art (MMA) fighters will be participating.
The event will feature various fights booked in their respective weight classes. For the featherweight division fight set for the preliminary round, British MMA fighter Ross Pearson will take on Brazilian MMA fighter Junior Assuncao. Their fight is expected
to create some waves in the featherweight division as both fighters have the potential to make an aggressive start.
Pearson, the 27-yearold fighter is coming with a loss he faced against Edson Barboza at UFC 134 in August 2011. He hasn’t shown consistency in the recent past for he lost two of his fights in the last five bouts he competed in, which will be a reason of
concern for his performance. On the other hand, Assuncao will prove to be a force to reckon with for he is on a winning streak since November 2008. With seven consecutive victories he will be in the right frame of mind to take on Pearson.
An interesting fact to note is that both fighters have won fourteen bouts in their career. The main difference will come in their striking and takedown techniques. Pearson has an 80% success rate with his striking and can possibly use this punches and knee
strikes in the early goings of the fight. Assuncao is also efficient with his strikes but he has a 38% rate of success with his strikes. If he gets in the right mood, he will not miss any opportunity to knockout Pearson.
The British MMA fighter must also keep a distance from Assuncao for the Brazilian can takedown Pearson before hammering his fists and knees in his body. Talking about takedowns, both fighters stand almost at the same level as Pearson has a 20% success rate
with his takedowns and Assuncao has a 32% rate.
With both fighters going head to head, the reach factor will also play a role as Assuncao’s height might give him a slight advantage. Pearson stands in at 5ft 8in while Assuncao is 5ft 9in tall. The difference in 1in may not be of importance but if Assuncao
bends forward while striking with his arm, then he will a slightly higher leverage in shooting at his target.
