Ross Pearson excited to enter featherweight division at UFC 141 – UFC News
Ross Pearson, the 27-year-old English mixed martial art (MMA) fighter has been a successful one in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
In June 2009, he made his successful UFC debut by winning The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 Finale by beating Andre Winner. While contesting in the UFC, he has fought 6 fights out of which he has won 4 and lost 2. Being a lightweight fighter he now aims at fighting
in the featherweight category.
Since making his professional MMA debut in December 2004, he has won twelve fights and lost 5. All of these bouts were for the lightweight division. Pearson will be making his featherweight debut at UFC 141 which is scheduled to take place on December 30,
2011 in Las Vegas. He will be facing Junior Assuncao in the fight where he would be willing to have a winning start as a featherweight contender. Pearson is going to have a tough time when he faces Assuncao. The Brazilian is enjoying a seven fight consecutive
streak and would be a worthy opponent while facing Pearson in the ring.
For both the fighters, Assuncao and Pearson, their bout at UFC 141 would also be an emotional one for the UFC community. Their fight will be the last LIVE matchup to be aired on Spike TV. UFC has made a deal with Fuel TV and FOX network to air their fights
after UFC 141. Ever since Pearson announced his transfer into the featherweight category, he has been excited for his decision.
Pearson said, “Not many people have asked for me as a fight. I always come to fight; I’m a hard fight for anyone. I’m never an easy fight, and he’s got a fight on his hands. If he wants to welcome me to the division, let him welcome us. I’ll be coming in
to do my job.”
Pearson has been growing strong with his skills and he himself has stated many times that over the years he has further sharpened his MMA techniques in becoming a better fighter than he was when he started his career. UFC 141 will prove whether Pearson can
make his name in the featherweight category or would be need to take another look on his decision.
