Ross Pearson makes featherweight debut at UFC 141 – UFC News
On December 30, 2011 the British mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Ross Pearson will meet his destiny when he faces Junior Assuncao at UFC 141.
According to reports, Pearson has given his vows to become the new UFC Featherweight Champion. He will be facing Brazilian MMA fighter Assuncao in his career’s first ever featherweight bout.
This would be something of a challenge for Pearson to move down from lightweight to featherweight. This would also be a test of his nerves as he takes on an equally matched opponent in the form of Assuncao. Pearson has had a great run in the fighting cage
with wins over Spencer Fisher, Dennis Silver, Aaron Riley and Ian Jones. He has shown his resiliency in previous fights and he is willing to bring the same aggression when he competes in the first featherweight bout.
While expressing his views, Pearson said, “I’m looking to make a statement. I’m here in this division and I’m coming for a title shot.”
According to Pearson, it is now time that he is given a title opportunity. He is looking forward to become the number one contender for the UFC featherweight title. For Pearson this fight would be something of a challenge.
He needs to prove himself as a better featherweight fighter. If he wins the fight, then he can surely consider himself worthy for the title. MMA and UFC critics have shown their concern over shifting to the featherweight category for Assuncao is unbeaten
in seven straight bouts.
Pearson is also aware the level of competition he would face at UFC 141 and later in his featherweight career. According to reports, he has been doing immense training to tone himself down to the featherweight division. He has been excited ever since he
decided to drop himself down from the lightweight to the featherweight category.
He said, “I’m feeling unstoppable. I’m training with the best of the best and I’m doing awe- some with them all. It shows how fast I’m getting better.”
With UFC 141 closing in, Pearson is confident to make a name for himself in his new found weight class. His longer aim is to become the best fighter in the featherweight division by clinching the title. But before that, he should make an impact against Assuncao.
