Ross Taylor eager to perform as captain for the Kiwis
The deputy to Daniel Vettori, Ross Taylor will be the stand-in captain for the third One Day International (ODI) against Pakistan at Christchurch in the six-match ODI series. The star batsman is keen to prove his worth as the leader of his team.
After a test series loss against Pakistan, Vettori decided to step-down as the captain of the team from the longest version of the game. This decision was followed by Vettori’s announcement of stepping-down as the team’s leader from all forms of the game
after the 2011 World Cup.
The future captain of the team was expected to be Taylor, but star wicketkeeper batsman, Brendon McCullum also expressed his desire of leading his country after Vettori steps-down.
However, Taylor was confident that he will be the captain of his side after the mega event. He stated that, being the vice-captain of the team and leading the team in the absence of Vettori was an indication for him that he would be the future leader of
the Kiwi team.
On leading his side against Pakistan, he said, “I've always enjoyed leading my country, it's probably going to be a little different still having Dan there in the sheds but I'm looking forward to it.”
Taylor has led New Zealand in six one-days in the absence of Vettori and he has led the team to victory on two occasions whereas, the team suffered defeat thrice under his reign.
One stat that favours the star batsman is that he averages above 50 in those six matches, where he led his side.
Commenting on his captaincy style, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 said, “I'm not sure of my style or the way other people look at it, but I like to be proactive in field placings and rotating the bowlers as well.”
The 26-year-old further stated that it will be a learning curve for him if he gets selected as captain of his team after the mega event. He admitted that he has made mistakes in the past and he may commit some more in the future but believes that he will
not mind making mistakes in order to learn from them.
