http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 as a specialist batsman - Cricket News Update
New Zealand cricket team’s resources are dwindling, as their premier all-rounder, Jesse Ryder, has picked up an injury and will be watching the Kiwis' solitary Test match against Zimbabwe from the sidelines.
Ryder, who is no alien to injuries, strained his calf muscles while bowling in the two-day warm-up against Zimbabwe A side at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. The all-rounder, who bowled merely three deliveries, did not play any further
part in the match.
Ross Taylor, the skipper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, feels bowling is the major factor behind Ryder’s injury and hints at cutting down the all-rounder’s workload by using him as a specialist batsman.
Revealing that the option is under consideration, Taylor said, “It's not far away. His track record [with injuries] has been average to say the least but he's still one of our best players and we've got to try and keep him on the
park as much as possible. As captain I want Jesse to bowl as well, but I'd rather Jesse bat and score a lot of runs than bowl and get injured.”
Taylor, who was appointed as the skipper of Black Caps after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384 steeped down from his post, is still learning the tricks of the trade. The right-handed batsman rants that leading the team on a one-off basis is quite
different than taking the job permanently.
The 27-year-old says that he always seeks help from the senior members of the team and acknowledges the response given by them.
Adjusting to his new role, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 said, “I'm still getting to grips with it, still getting to know the players a bit better. I'd be stupid and naive not to seek a guy who's played 100 Tests and the former captain. I've been in
his ear a lot and getting a feel for what he thinks, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 also has been outstanding.”
The Test match between New Zealand and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 will begin from Tuesday, November 1, 2011, and will be played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
Both teams are injury stricken, for the hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-Southee-c2659 and
