Ross Taylor looking forward to captain New Zealand
New Zealand vice captain Ross Taylor is looking forward to the challenge of captaincy.
There is a lot of debate going on in the country as whether Brendon McCullum or Taylor will lead the New Zealand side after the World Cup 2011 when Daniel Vettori retires from the post.
Both Taylor and McCullum have shown their desire to the captain their national side. Taylor, who has already led the Kiwis, has shown signs of astuteness and maturity on the field.
Taylor said, “I've always enjoyed leading my country, it's probably going to be a little different still having Dan there in the sheds but I'm looking forward to it.”
He added, “It's out of my hands on who they select but in the future I would love to do the job. I think obviously being vice-captain and having the opportunity to lead the team in a few one-dayers and Twenty20s, you get a bit of a buzz and a bug for it,
so hopefully I can show what I'm made of tomorrow.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915, who has led the New Zealand team on six occasions, has not done poorly in two wins. As a leader, his batting average rose to 51 compared to his overall average of 36 runs. In those victories, he fared well scoring 95 and 70.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 vice-captain added, “The extra responsibility is something I enjoy. As captain you get to dictate a few things and quite often you have a captain's innings. It's something Dan does very well, he leads from the front when he captains the side.
Hopefully I can take a leaf from him in that regard.”
In the ongoing series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Ross was given a chance to lead his country in the second match, as Vettori was rested due to rotation policy. But only four overs were possible in the game. However, in the three-match Twenty20 series, he led his
side to a 2-1 victory over the tourists.
Apart from his leadership qualities, Ross is the best batsman in the line-up. He will be a crucial member for his team in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011.
In the third One-dayer against the visitors, Taylor will lead New Zealand. The home side leads the six-match series by 1-0 with four more matches to play. This is Taylor’s chance to lead from the front and impress the national selectors with his leadership
qualities.
