Officials have confirmed that Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Taylor was hit on the left hand by a short ball delivered by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 in the 66th over, and was forced to retire hurt on 18. He was taken for X-rays, which revealed a fracture in the ulna of his left forearm.
“The break is not displaced, which is a positive sign, but we will see an orthopaedic surgeon to determine the best course of action and the length of time [Taylor will be] out of the game,” Ian Murphy, medical director of New Zealand Cricket, had clarified
shortly after the home skipper sustained the injury.
Following a thorough examination, the orthopaedic surgeon suggested that the best option for the injured right-hander would be a surgery, which was confirmed by Murphy today.
“This will give him the best opportunity to recover with the actual return date determined by the speed of his recovery from surgery,” he explained. "It is not anticipated he will be able to play within the next four weeks but this will depend on how quickly
the injury has healed and Ross's level of comfort.”
This is Taylor’s second serious injury in less than four months. A torn calf muscle forced him to bow out on the second day of the only Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in January this year in Napier (he scored an unbeaten 122 on the first day).
The series against South Africa marked his return, post-recovery, and Taylor went on to posts respectable scores such as 44, and an unbeaten 48 which he contributed towards an 82-run partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 (48) during the 1st Test in
Dunedin. However, his comeback during the series against the Proteas has culminated in yet another injury for the 28-year-old.
The broken forearm will also force Taylor to miss part of the IPL 2012, which is due to commence in April. The Kiwi batsman was transferred to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals in late February this year. The move marked his third team change -
he had originally started with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, after which he was bought by the Rajasthan outfit for $1 million during the 2011 auction.
