Ross Taylor urges Kiwis to learn from ODI loss as Test series approaches – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, as they prepare to face their hosts once again, in a  2-match Test series
due to commence next Wednesday.
"We are a young team, but we are young in terms of games not in terms of years, I think," Taylor said of the one-day unit, refusing to entertain the youth of the squad as an excuse for their ODI defeat.
"We have got a couple of youngsters but that did not contribute to our loss in any way. But when you lose and lose like we have, 4-1, there's no use losing 4-1 and not learning from it. We need to learn from it and be a better team and then next time we
come up against the West Indies or another international side in one-day cricket we need to learn from this."
While the squad did feature several youngsters in the form of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 (29 years old), who has only played 2 Tests
and 14 ODIs.
The lack of experience of the players in the squad was compounded by the absence of key players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JD-Ryder-c1679 (who has taken an indefinite leave from cricket owing to personal
issues), and Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 (who sustained a shoulder injury in the first T20I).
Following their 0-2 drubbing in the T20I series, the Black Caps went on to concede a 1-4 defeat in the ODIs. A feeble batting order was identified as the main weakness which prevented the tourists from making any impression during the series, and their only
victory – an 88-run win in the 3rd ODI – came as the result of a fierce bowling attack, featuring strong performances by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Boult-c2708.
With the limited-overs defeats behind them, however, the visitors are gearing up for the Test leg of the tour, and the addition of seasoned players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295 (68 Tests with 226 wickets) to the squad
augur well for the Black Caps as they go into the 2-match series, due to commence on July 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
