  1. Well I am amazed at the answers to this but that is why it is all about opinion.

Fogarty had absolutely no redeeming qualities in my book and I am sorry but the young lady who says that Valentino is not as good a communicator as Fogarty ..... what !!?!? Rossi speaks two languages for goodness sake, Fogarty can't even enunciate in his mother tongue. Lets' look at this way

    1) Riding talent - Rossi eclipses Fogarty in every single way.

    2) Personality - The only thing that I can remember about Fogarty is that he was a terrible loser who was always moaning about someone or something.

    3) Popularity - Fogarty was big in the UK because he is British. If he had been German then we would not be having this discussion. Rossi is a global star because he is globally liked.

    4) Persona - Fogarty loved to tell people what a great rider he was. Rossi doesn't need to tell anyone.

The only thing about Fogarty was yes he was a good rider but no where near as good as Valentino. He whinged about not getting a chance in GP and if he was there he would have won it. He didn't get there because none of the teams rated him enough to give him the ride. This was in the Doohan era for goodness sake and Fogarty would have struggled to make top six in the company of those riders.

Finally as I rant - the fact that he is British is the lousiest reason to follow someone with blind loyalty. The reason Valentino, as an Italian, is so passionately supported ALL over the world is not just about his riding but also because he has class as a rider and a person.

Thumbs down to follow no doubt but that is fair enough as at the end of the day we all know that in the coming years Rossi will be mentioned in the same company as Agostini, Hailwood, Doohan, Lawson, Reed, Spencer and the such like. Fogarty will not be mentioned much at all.

  2. Karl every time - I loved watching him race and was gutted when he retired whereas Valentino is not in the same class as far as I am concerned!

  3. ****** hate rossi with a passion when he came off in valencia i whooped with joy,****** hate rossi fans "ooh vale hes so great"yeah well **** him he had **** bike and **** tyres and he was **** enough said,oh anyd if any rossi fans are riled by this ill be at donnington next year by the back of the grid on the hill with me rizzla susuki jacket takin the p**s outta you!right got that off me chest, foggy superior rider on inferior bikes

  4. As a proud Yorkshire man ( Foggy was next door in Lancashire ) and also the owner of 1 of only 100 signed copys of Foggy Auto bio, I have to say .................. Vale.

Foggy was amazing to watch. On the Ducati, nobody could touch him ( bar Ru$$el & Corser ) On the Honda RC45 he made them all shut up and eat humble pie. On the old ZXR750 endurance Team JVC with Hislop ( RIP) and " Too Tall " Tell Rymer, he was in another leaugue, but he stayed put to long.

He had a fantastic 500cc race in 1993 at Donnington Park coming 4th ( atfer " running out of fuel " handing Neil McKenzie 3rd ) on the Cagiva V593, and at that point every body wanted him to jump the MotoGP class. Factory 500 teams wanted him. Cagiva, Honda and KR Yamaha.

But he stayed with the Big Duke.

In a way, you cant blame him. £2.5 mill a ar, plus off track deals, fans world wide, and a championship that had not been destroyed by Flammini for personal greed.

As for Vale..................... been there done that, on 4 different level of bikes ( 125 / 250 500 + MotoGP )

He win record is only second to Ago. Thats not really something to be ashamed off!! I'm sure he will beat that in 08 then do a Wayne Gardner and quit.

Just like Foggy, who can blame him?

  5. Foggy - because he's English and raced in Superbikes, not GP

  6. I Think Wiggysan and Shuggie Mac sum it up very well. especially the era bit.  Vale would have lived with and probably beaten ON OCCASION the likes of Wayne and Mick. I really doubt if Foggy would be on the same page when the headlines came out post race. Good if not great Superbike riders come and go in GP.

    Valentino hand down.

  7. Have to agree with shuggie mac on this one.

Yes Foggy was good, there's no denying that...........but he wasn't as good as he himself said he was.

Let face it, in WSBK he had the factory machine in what was essentially the Ducati Cup. There were a lot of riders that given the same equipment would have had a good chance of beating Foggy (the late Steve Hislop springs to mind)

He's not in the same league as Rossi!

Foggy always said he was never offered competitive machinery in GP's. Ask yourself why?

  8. I'm Italian but I say fogarty

rossi is surely a better rider, but in the last 2 or 3 years he has become unlikeable and arrogant.

king Carl, instead, was a more genuine person, a real superbike rider.

    (w ducati :))

  9. rossi i don't like the fog lol

  10. i would love to say king carl but unfortunately i cant vale is in a class of his own and not many of the greats could have lived with him on track...i guess well never know how good carl could have been in gp's maybe if the motogp format had come about earlier we could be talkin more about him!!!wsb will never have another foggy and i doubt the gps will ever have another rossi

  11. Fogarty definately, I think he communicates better than VR and is more charismatic.  And of course the fact that he is English & gorgeous and has immense courage when it comes to pushing his limits - even after he's nearly killed himself and his Ducati.

  12. Hey Blade

Rossi - Why? because before we had digital TV I didn't see that many races as there were never re-runs etc. on regular telly,  plus -  I'd always be out racing on a Sunday!

Also - he's pretty funny in interviews as you're never quite sure what he's gonna say next.
