Rossi’s crew chief Jerry Burgess says he has not yet been asked about Yamaha – MotoGP news
Jerry Burgess crew chief of Valentino Rossi says that he has not yet been asked about his decision related to his return to Yamaha Factory Racing along with the Italian rider.
He said that he is not sure yet because no one has asked him anything about going back to Yamaha in the following 2013 season, until now. He added that he will have to ponder over this matter.
Burgess told Gazzetta Dello Sport, “I don't know, no one has asked me anything yet [about an eventual return to Yamaha]. I'll have to think about that.”
He said that he wanted to achieve their target with Ducati as Ducati has learned a lot in the last two years. He added that their target of reaching to top is not very far, perhaps they are very close to it.
“I would have liked to finish the job [at Ducati]. We aren't far off, perhaps we lack only 1 per cent. In these two years Ducati has learned a lot, and for me it is disappointing to be unable to finish,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that he understands that Rossi wants to end his career among the top contenders and the Italian rider feels that his target is achievable with Yamaha.
Moreover, he said that he believes that nothing has gone wrong because in some areas the crew was unable to deliver according to the requirements of the Italian rider while in the other areas the team did a good job.
Burgess said, “I think nothing [has gone wrong] - in certain areas we didn't manage to give Valentino what he would ask, while in others we have done plenty.”
Moreover, he said that they had to fit a chassis around an already designed engine which requires a lot of time, to find the best solution. He added that Ducati does not have the experience the Japanese manufacturers have.
Furthermore, he said that earlier he thought that the crew will be able to deliver what the Italian rider desires, but this bike required a new approach according to the rider. This is the reason why so many riders have failed until now.
He added that he is certain that they would have achieved the requirements of their rider but the Italian did not have enough time for Ducati.
