  1. What exactly do you want to know?

Rotary Intl is a community service organization founded in Chicago Illinois by Paul Harris and three others in 1905. Today Rotary has clubs and projects all over the world. The first project of the Rotary was to buy a horse for a country doctor. His horse had passed away.

The primary project of Rotary is the eradication of polio in the world. Since 1988 Rotary has raised over $600 million dollars and inoculated over 1 billion kids against the disease. The infection rate has been cut by 99%. We hope to have the world Polio-Free in the next few years.

Rotary also awards many scholarships around the world including Ambassadorial, Peace, and teacher learning opportunities. Education is very important to many of the individual clubs around the world.

Each club may also have an international project running with another local club. Examples include, clean water, hospitals, schools, emergency services, etc. I will be traveling in February to Nepal to assist handicapped children receive education and again in March to help build an emergency services building in Guatemala.

Clubs have multitudes of projects running in their home area. My club serves students, shut ins, the community, the club, and the lake community surrounding us. We are the primary source of community service hours and expertise in  our area.

Members are both men and women professionals from a variety of professions. We are not all old, I joined Rotary when I was 28 and served as President of a club when I was 34.

We also have clubs for people in their twenties, Roteract, and clubs for kids in High School, Interact.

Please feel free to send me any questions you like, I would be happy to help you with your speech.

  2. Use Google to search for Rotary-related sites and learn about what Rotary is and what it does. It's NOT "just old people." If you need to talk about local Rotary activities, you can probably find such by reading your local newspaper -- or even just giving them a call and asking them for referrals, then actually talk to Rotary members.
