My bell ringer isn't working and I was going to take the back cover off but there's no screws. The part thatthe phone hangs when you're not using it is holding the cover together. How can I take the cover off?

  1. I've taken those apart before but it was a looooong time ago.  I think there is a s***w holding the receiver hanger onto the unit.  Then you should be able to pop off the cover.

  2. Look direcily on the bottom of the cover and you will see a slot. place a screwdriver in the slot and push up while pulling the bottom of the cover toward you. To replace, just push the bottom of the cover toward the phone and it will snap back in place.

  3. I'm not sure exactly which model rotary phone you have, but if it's the one I think it is, under the hook which holds the handset is a piece of paper under a plastic cover which people write their own phone number on (in case they forget it I guess!) and underneath that is a s***w.  If it comes down to it, you can buy external ringers that you can use in conjunction with that phone.

  4. If you have a 554 telephone, look on the bottom - there is a tab that you press up and then it will release the cover.

See a picture of the phone and a location of the tab here:

If your bell is not working it may have been wired for party line ringing.  Move the black ringer wire from the "G" s***w terminal to the "L1" s***w terminal.
