What is the best time of year to place a lawn? I have brass down now but it is uneaven and annoys me. Can i rotavate the old lawn into the soil, level it and seed over? Can anyone also tell me how long i should leave the leveled soil before sawing seeds? Am I to late in the year to get it done now?

  1. If the grass drains okay the do not rotivate but add soil on the top and rake flat.Heel in the soil and rake again.Add grass seeds and slightly cover.Rotivating is hard work and expensive and getting it level after is mighty difficult.Best time is Sept,as soil warm and it should be raining by then otherwises mid march.Use a longish straight bit of wood to level down the uneven areas

  2. You can rotovate the old grass in. You will need to do it thoroughly to break up the old sods (excuse the expression).

Autumn is fine for reseeding as you won't have to worry about drought which is death to new lawns. October is probably the ideal month. Tread it down well or it will settle into dips and hollows later. Scatter Growmore a week or so before sowiing.Water if it is dry. Tip- Avoid grass seed with ryegrass as you will be mowing coarse grass forever.

  3. take off the top layer of turf level out the soil and sow your seed, mix the seed with some coarse dry sand this deters sparrows (they love it!) water it in with a fine spray if rain is not imminent, do it now and you should see your first blades of grass in 10 - 14 days, now is an ideal time to sow a new lawn (everything is growing)
