Question:

Roti Sai Mai in the US (Thai dessert)?

I had this amazing snack on the streets of Thailand called Roti Sai Mai (or just Sai Mai) which is a thin pancake wrapped around sugar spun like cotton candy. Does anyone know if you can find it for sale in the US? I'm hoping there's a restaurant or bakery in new york that sells it.

  1. Roti Sai Mai is also my favorite dessert. You can buy it at Bann Kanom Thai: 5271 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90027, Phone no (323) 871-8030.

I live in San Francisco, everytime i have a chance to go down there I have to go buy Roti Sai Mai from here :)

  2. Oh I love those, absolute heaven.  I have never seen it for sale anywhere.  I've checked out Thai town in LA, and Thai town in Chicago, although I don't know about NYC.  I've only had it once in the US at a Thai temple in Wisconsin during a big festival.  If you can't find it around your area I would suggest making it yourself.  The roti is not too difficult.  You could use prepackaged cotton candy or get a machine and make it yourself even though it wouldn't be exactly the same.  This is what I'm thinking of doing, especially now that you reminded me of them.  Good luck finding some!

  3. Hi,

I think it will be very difficult to find "Roti Sai Mai" in the US. If you're lucky, you might find it, but I doubt it. I like this snack too. It's one of my favorite and I miss it. If you like cooking, you can certainly try it. It might be hard to find the right ingredients. Once you have all ingredients, it's doable but it takes time. :)

Glad you love one of our snack!
