Question:

Rotten bananas and moldy bread?

I just moved out of my house and came to Hawaii... and before I could even say "I'm free," I washed a new white shirt and it came out looking like it has spots of rust all over it, bananas I bought 2 days ago are black and left nasty banana juice all over my cupboard, and bread I bought 4 days ago is moldy. First of all... any idea how to get the rust out of the white shirt? Any special kind of cleaner you thought that worked? Second, what can I do to keep my bananas from turning black and leaking again, and what do I use to clean up the juice (I wiped it all up but I'm thinkin I need some kinda spray? It smells horrible. They were in a plastic bag if that has anything to do with it....), and what can I do to preserve my bread? Thanks...

  1. Take the bananas out of the plastic bag.  Use clorox wipes to clean up the juice.  Put your bread in the fridge.  Try Zout on the shirt.

  2. Shirt - Vanish or other brand stain remover. If it doesn't work you could try a bio wash powder with a touch of bleach in it.

Bananas - keep in coolest possible place, out of plastic and preferably seperated. You can buy a banana tree for this purpose. They are noted for turning black if they touch other fruit as well - even their brothers & sisters! I place mine on a piece of kitchen towel seperately. (In my garage)

Smell - a liquid lemon cleaner, then an Air Freshener block (similar to the ones for cars) in the cupboard until smell gone.

Bread - In a plastic bag with a freezer block in it. (The type you would put in a cool box to keep food chilled before a picnic)

    Hawaii - Enjoy!
