i have a 10month old rottweiler puppy and shes extremely friendly, with humans and animals.i have been wanting to get her a new playmate in the shape of a bullmastiff pup (a boy) and was just wondering if they would get along?my rottweiler is a beautiful specimen, perfect in my eyes (you can see her in my asked questions if you like) and i just think a bullmastiff and her sitting together would be quite a team.i love the shape of these dogs.i would just hate it for them not to get along.

  1. As you might expect, it's going to depend a lot on the personality of the individual dogs.  Is your Rottweiler well socialized?  How does he interact with other dogs?  Knowing the personality of a Bullmastiff pup is going to be a little harder, just because of their age.

Some breeders allow you to bring your dog in to make sure that the dogs get along well.  Some pet stores allow you to do the same--and contrary to popular belief, not all pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills.  Some of them use very reputable breeders with dogs coming from champion blood lines.

  2. I have a cross bull mastiff/rottie and she is one powerful energetic dog!   Your 10 month old is young enough to accept most any dog in.  Once they get much older than a year it gets harder to introduce a new dog.

I introduced my 8 year old to a 3 month old puppy and she was really stand offish at first but within a week or two they were best buds.   Bring the new one in the house but keep it seperated in another room or in a  cage for the first couple hours and let them get introduced slowly and without one being in the other's territory.  Taking a  walk with both on seperate leashes and seperate walkers is a great way to familiarize them with each other. Once they accept each other ... they will get along from then on.

You may have to start and keep feeding them seperately... dogs are very territorial over their food dish..  Water not at all territorial

  3. if you watch them properly and not let things go to far in play then go for it.

Be sure to buy from a genuine lover of the Bull Mastiff breed and check out any hereditary diseases the breed may have.  Try to buy from healthy checked parents only.

When choosing the puppy try not to choose the lively one nor the most timid one.

  4. Im sure they would both get along just make sure they are both spayed and Neutered.

  5. if the rottie loves other animals then definately
