We want a decent hotel. But it doesn't have to be too fancy.

We love good food - I mean we REALLY love good food.

We like great entertainment.

We'd also love to just lounge around by a swimming pool sipping cocktails.

What might this cost us?

  1. AIRFARE:

I'm not sure where you are travelling from, but I did a search from Toronto on nearby airports and the cheapest flight it came out with for the last week of January was $590 per person.  Just to be on the safe side- we will estimate the airfare at $600 each.

    Air total= $1200

    HOTEL

Depending on your budget there are three hotels I would recommend

Excalibur- deals usually run at an average of $51/night, but for a better experience I would upgrade to their brand new "widescreen rooms" which would put you at about $71/night.  They also have a brand new pool area that includes a relaxation pool,  a poolside bar, and a poolside restaurant.

The total for 5 nights at this hotel (sun-fri) would be about $400

Mandalay Bay- if I could stay in any hotel on the strip, this would be it.  The specials run about $110/night, but if you sign up for the email offers on their website, they sometimes send you $89/night specials.  They have the #1 pool on the strip that includes real sand, a lazy river, a wave pool, and a jogging track.  There is also a brand new 3 story beachside casino.  The rooms are absolutely gorgeous and there are so many options to choose from.

at $110/night for 5 nights the total would be about $650

For hotel you can expect to spend about $100/night which comes to about $580 after tax for 5 nights.

    Hotel total= $580

As far as food goes, in Vegas, you usually don't have to spend a lot of money on good food.  My favorite places to go are the Carnival World Buffet at Rio (free shuttle from Paris), and the Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood.  Each of them is about $18 for lunch and $23 for dinner.  If you eat one buffet a day, you won't have to eat very much else because they fill you up.  We usually just stop by the food court if we get hungry.  Just in case you might spend more on a fancy meal, I would budget about $125/day for food. (5 days) HINT:  Without eating expensive meals, you could budget $100/day or less.

    Food total= $625

    ENTERTAINMENT

    http://smartervegas.com/shows.aspx

If you really like entertainment, you should probably see at least two shows while you are there.  The obvious would be Cirque du Soleil shows because they are very good and very popular in Vegas.  You should budget about $120 per ticket per show that you see.  A lot of times you can find good deals on the best shows using the link above.  Budget 2 shows ($480) plus misc entertainment money of $100/day (5 days)

    Entertainment total= $980

    Air + Hotel + Food + Entertainment=    $3385

This amount can fluctuate depending on your budgeting tactics and your airfare.  All of these hotel rates are given for a Sun- Fri stay, hotel rates at least double on friday and saturday nights.

    I hope this helps!

  2. You could easily go through $1000/day in Vegas for hotel, food, drinks, taxis, and shows for two people if you want to experience some of the nicer stuff without holding back on anything.  Also figure the airfare will probably be $600-$1200 depending where in Canada you come from.

Also, don't count on lounging around the pool too much.  January in Vegas is as cold as October is in most parts of Canada, it will rarely even make it up to 20 Celsius even during the hottest days, and it easily drops below freezing at night.  Sure, 15 C is better than being buried in snow but it's not exactly tropical either.

  3. Five years ago, my husband and I went for $2000.  I called the airlines directly and asked for a flight and hotel package.  We got three nights plus airfare for $600.  The rest went for gambling, food and entertainment.  We had a wonderful time and didn't pinch pennies when it came to meals, souvenirs and such.

You have got to rent one of those mini cars!  It's like a golf cart but it goes faster, and it's street legal.  We got one the last day we were there and had the best time on that car!  Good luck to you!

  4. Flights are usually cheaper in the winter time. I will recommend booking your flight and hotel separately to get the maximum discounts.

For flights, check the kayak engine and it will search all airlines and travel sites and return the lowest fare for that time period.

For hotels, always book directly from the hotels using their discount promo codes. Here is a good place to find promo codes.

For food, eat at the Vegas buffets. The food is good and very reasonable

  5. I'm not including airfares but we stayed there for a week last september and it cost about $2000 give or take a bit.

We stayed at the MGM Grand, we flew out to the Grand Canyon for a long day trip, Did a bus tour of Hoover dam and did a bit of gambling. Shows are $60-$180 each some tickets include dinner.

  6. well, where in canada do you live?  generally more $$ to fly from the east coast then the west coast.

how long are you going for?

if you want a nice pool you prob need to stay in a decent hotel.  figure $150-200 a night.

lots of great food options in vegas, so figure maybe $50 lunch, $100 dinner.  though if you want really good food this will go up a lot.

entertainment, depends on what you like.  shows, tix will be about $50-100per person, per show.

your best bet is getting on some vegas websights/travel websights and figuring out how much it will cost with what you really want to do.
