Roughly what help from the UK government will I receive when my first child is born?

I will return to work full time, have a husband in full time employment and will pay for part time childcare. Do I get child benefit/ tax credits and if so how much roughly are they?

  1. Every one who has had a child is entitled to child benefit. In Scotland this is about £18 a week for 1st child and then about £12 for every other child.  As for tax credits i'm not sure it depends on you and your husbands income. Alot of working couples are entitled to working tax credit when they work and if your income is both quite low you can also be entitled to child tax credits.  Some couple are also entitled to help with child care costs for them being able to return to work. Just contact your local advise shop and ask. Hope i helped.

  3. Everybody with a child gets child benefit. It is around £17 a week. You may also receive tax credits.
