Round 2 of Roxy Pro Gold Coast wrapped up at Snapper Rocks on Sunday – Surfing News
The second round of 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, Roxy Pro Gold Coast, wrapped up at Snapper Rocks in Queensland, Australia, on Sunday, February 26.
Pitted against Australia’s Philippa Anderson in the third heat, Brazil’s Silvana Lima put on an outstanding performance to claim top honours. Her onslaught during the course of the battle enabled her to get to a heat-total of 17.56 points, while Anderson
responded weakly with an inadequate two-wave total of 11.50 points.
“I’m so happy about that 9-point-ride!” Lima said. “I’ve had problems with my knee lately, but I just tried to forget about it. So I went out there and surf for me and all of Brazil and now I don’t feel any pain in my knee!”
With her win in the third heat, the Brazilian surfer advanced through into the third round while Anderson was forced to take an early leave from the competition.
In Heat 4, New Zealand’s Sarah Mason used her knowledge of the surfing conditions at Snapper Rocks to prevail over Hawaii’s Coco Ho, finishing with a heat-total of 13.10 against her rival’s 11.20. The victory carried her into the next round while eliminating
the latter from the event.
“I was really excited for that heat because the waves looked so fun!” Mason said. “I just knew if I could get the right waves I could get some scores. I just tried to catch the best waves and was really trying to enjoy surfing Snapper with just one other
person out.”
America’s Courtney Conlogue took on her compatriot Sage Erickson in the fifth heat. Both the surfers fought hard for waves. Once the dust settled, Conlogue sat at a heat-total of 15.60 points to take the win over Erickson who finished with a heat-total of
13.43 points.
The final heat of Round 2 pitted New Zealand’s Paige Hareb against Australia’s Rebecca Woods in a battle for survival.
Both the surfers had struggled to find their rhythm on Saturday and did not look too good in their latest heat either. However, the Kiwi eventually claimed top honours after scoring a 12.34 off her top-two waves to remove Woods, who finished with a heat-total
of 8.10, from the contention for the event-title.
