Round 2 of the Drew-Goodman League face-off cancelled – NBA Report

A rematch between the Drew League and the Goodman League sides has been called off according to officials. Basketball fans, already starved in the NBA’s off season, were hoping to see another Drew-Goodman match after a thrilling
game in Washington.
The first game featured NBA stars Kevin Durant and John Wall, who play for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards respectively, turn out for Goodman. On the other hand the Drew team featured Durant’s teammate with the
Thunder, guard James Harden, team-up with Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The game itself was a thrilling spectacle of basketball with both sides going berserk on the offensive end. Kevin Durant won the MVP award with a 44 point performance, propelling his side to a close 135-134 victory. The success
of the game left basketball fans itching for more and a rematch was planned, reportedly for the 10th of September in Los Angeles; however it has now been officially called off.
With so much pro-am basketball being played throughout the country, the organizers could not get the star players to commit to the game in light of their already jam packed schedules. There were other issues as well and they all
combined to the disappointment of fans as well as some eager officials.
"It's disappointing," said Drew League commissioner Dino Smiley, "because the original plan was to do the game out in D.C., then for the Goodman team to return to L.A. for the second one."
Smiley was in touch with officials from the Goodman league and hoped to secure another game, but the Commissioner revealed he was unable to overcome the various obstacles and in the end had to give up.
"The longer it went without the game taking place and the date being set up, we decided it wouldn't happen," he said.
The NBA players have been busy playing in pro-am leagues in the United States as well as in promotional tours elsewhere. Many big names from the league, such as Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and Chicago Bulls reigning NBA
MVP Derrick Rose, gathered to play two exhibition games in the Philippines earlier.
Just recently New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony teamed up with his friends, LeBron James and Chris Paul among them, to take on the Goodman League all-Stars in an exhibition game. Therefore there is still plenty of basketball
to go around at the moment.
If Smiley has his way, there could be more. Disappointed in his current venture, Dino is already looking forward to getting another cross league game organized, this time focusing on the West Coast,
"We're talking to the San Francisco Pro-Am, and the Seattle Pro-Am," he said. "So we may do something with them, or may just do a showcase of our own."
