Round 3 wraps up on day 2 of the ASP 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro
The exciting surfing action continued with the remaining Round 3 (Round of 64) heats of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro at the secondary site of Les Dunes in Bretignolles-sur-Mer, France, on Friday, April 20.
The crowd got to witness a series of exhilarating surfing battles as huge field compromising of both local as well as international talent took each other on to try and make their way through into the next round of the competition.
The quality of waves had improved significant on day 2 of the event, offering surfers plenty of potential scoring opportunities. This served to raise the level of surfing during the heats and allowed the fans to catch a series of spectacular performances.
Pitted against a handful of promising talent, Germany’s Marlon Lipke came down hard on his rivals during the 13th heat. Navigating his way through the big waves, he managed to find a couple of good scores to eventually finish with a heat-total
of 13.27 points. The score saw him through to victory and thus carried him into the fourth round (Round of 32).
Portugal’s Eduardo Fernandes finished in runner-up place with a heat-total of 7.70 points and thus made his way into the next round as well. Sweden’s Timothy Latte and Reunion Island’s Frederic Robin got eliminated from the competition after rounding out
the bottom-two positions with a heat-total of 6.07 and 5.86 points respectively.
The 14th heat saw the 24-year-old Lars Musschoot from Belgium barely edge past French Polynesia’s Steven Pierson, scoring an 8.74 against his competitor’s 8.40, to claim top honours. The top-two finish by the two surfers carried them through into
the next round.
Portugal’s Joao Guedes and France’s Roland Lefeuvre made a premature exit from the competition after finishing with a heat-total of 7.66 and 6.53 points respectively.
The 15th heat featured an impressive performance by France’s Gordon Fontaine as he utilised his local knowledge of the waves to get to a heat-total of 11.67 points. The score served to earn him top honours and thus added him to the Round 4 line-up.
He was accompanied by Morocco’s Yassine Ramdani, who clinched runner-up position with a heat-total of 8.37 points.
Basque Country’s Norman Landa finished third with a heat-total of 6.70 points, whereas France’s Pierre Rollet rounded out the bottom-position with a two-wave total of 3.98 points.
The final heat of Round 3 saw Reunion Island’s Adrien Toyon and Basque Country’s Jatyr Berasaluce make the Round 4 cut after rounding out the top-two positions with a heat-total of 9.17 and 9.03 points respectively.
France’s Ian Fontaine and Spain’s Luis Rodriguez were unable to make a place for themselves in the next round after scoring a heat-total of 8.37 and 7.13 points respectively.
