The English International appeared in the transfer market as a free agent, after serving out his three-year contract at Manchester United.
According to some reports, Stoke City and Everton are interested in seeking the striker’s signature, with some sources having tipped him to join the Potters close to the transfer deadline date.
Earlier, Owen himself had unravelled his longing to sign a deal with a Premier League outfit, and played down a possible move to a Championship team.
However, currently, the situation is looking grim for the former Liverpool hit-man. With the transfer window set to close on the 31st of August, he still finds himself without a club, and is running in the risk of ending up without a contract
till the January window.
What is more worrisome for Owen is the fact that Everton, one of the few EPL clubs to have shown their interest in him, seem to have pulled out from the race in signing him.
Round, the assistant manager at Goodison Park, mentioned that even though he admired the skill and capabilities of the striker, his club are not in need of a forward anymore.
“There's been no contact from us to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 but at the moment he's not been spoken about by the manager or the chairman,” he told the reporters in an interview.
Owen’s current status in the market is in sharp contrast with his demand about ten years ago. Considered by many as one of the greatest http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 strikers of all times, the English footballer represented Real Madrid and Newcastle United during his illustrious
career, and later went on to sign for the Red Devils.
He won the Premier League Golden Boot twice in back to back seasons from 1997 to 1999, and also secured the coveted Ballon d’Or laurel in 2001.
Round said he carried no doubts about the player’s potential and the value that he can bring to any team, and hoped that he will soon find a club best suited to his requirements.
“Michael is a proven goal scorer at the highest level… If he stays fit and plays for a Premier League team I'm sure he'll score goals. But it's not really the area we're looking for,” he added.
