Round up: Baltimore Orioles clean sweep Kansas City Royals, 3-0 – MLB Update
American League’s Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals, both went head to head in an exciting three game series. The Orioles did an outstanding job as they brushed aside the Royals 3-0 in the series. Baltimore has had a good season so far as they attained
an exemplary Win-Loss record in the current season.
Let us take an overview of the games.
Game 1: Baltimore Orioles 5 – Kansas City Royals 3 - May 24
The Orioles managed a 5-3 win in the first game, as Adam Jones was impressive with the bat. He struck a two-run homer including two RBIs to give the Orioles a convincing victory. Jones was excited after the win as he said, “First time I ever got one like
that. I just wanted to make sure I came down properly. It's not funny, but it is funny. It felt good getting punched in the stomach and ribs.”
On the other side, the batters failed to contribute for the Royals. Kansas City starter Danny Duffy pitched well but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out six batters on his 97 pitches.
Game 2: Baltimore Orioles 9 – Kansas City Royals 2 - May 25
In the second game, the Orioles outclassed the Royals 9-2. Jake Arrieta threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and permitted just two runs on five hits. Arrieta struck-out seven batters and gave away three walks on his 106 pitches.
The Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter had a huge ovation for Arrieta. Speaking to reporters, Showalter said, “He's fortunate to get through six innings. He worked himself into some trouble. He's 6-2 and he's only had a couple bad outings where he didn't give
us a good chance to win.”
The Royals’ batters were restricted to just two runs right through the game. Miguel Cabrera and Chris Getz were the only two players who were able to put two runs collectively on the score-board. Luke Hochevar had a shaky day as he threw seven innings with
an ERA of 4.81 and gave away eight runs on eight hits with seven earned runs.
Game 3: Baltimore Orioles 6 – Kansas City Royals 5 - May 26
During the last game of the series, the Royals lost by 6-5. Nolan Reimold shined as he made two runs including two homers and four RBIs. He improved his batting average to a great extent. After the convincing win, Reimold commented on his feelings and said,
“It feels real good. You never know really what to expect for the game. I was happy to have a good game, very happy that we got the win. We've got a little win streak going.”
Getz scored two runs while Mike Aviles, Brayan Pena and Jeff Francoeur each singled to score five runs for the Royals. However, a team effort was required to win the game.
