Round up: Chicago White Sox defeat Chicago Cubs 2-1 - MLB Update
National League’s Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs both had a lower position in the MLB rankings 2010 but they maintained their better Win-Loss record. The White Sox overpowered the Cubs 2-1 in a three game series at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago.
The Cubs started the series well as they won the first game but the White Sox were dominated by two consecutive wins to clinch the series comfortably. The summary of these games is follows.
Game 1: Chicago Cubs 6 – Chicago White Sox 3 – June 20
The Cubs took away the first game with an easy 6-3 win. Carlos Zambrano had a notable day with his pitching as he threw eight overriding innings in the Cubs’ persuasive victory. He struck-out five batters and allowed two walks on 115 pitches.
Zambrano said, “People change. I'm human. Everybody makes a mistake, some make big mistakes. ... The most important thing is to relax after you make a mistake.”
Starlin Castro and Carlos Pena both homered and gave the Cubs a solid potential. Juan Pierre, Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko were able to add three runs for the White Sox. Other batters got out on their slothful shots towards field-area.
Game 2: Chicago White Sox 3 – Chicago Cubs 2 – June 21
With the persuasive 3-2 victory of the White Sox, the series was tied 1-all. Paul Konerko was remarkable throughout the game as he hit one homer including one RBI and went 2-for-3. Konerko gave an exemplary start to the White Sox by hitting a solo home-run
while Alex Rios and Alexei Ramirez added the last two runs.
Speaking to reporters, Konerko said, “It's still way above a regular-season game. You still have that pump up from these games, it's not like a run of the mill game. That's the way it goes. It's no big deal.”
On the other side, Reed Johnson posted a single run and Pena homered to score two runs for the Cubs.
Game 3: Chicago White Sox 4 – Chicago Cubs 3 – June 22
The White Sox clinched the series after defeating the Cubs 4-3 with an outstanding performance of Jake Peavy. He had five strike-outs in just over five inning pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 4.72.
Peavy said, “I had a tough time coming off. I had a tough time swallowing the way my start went. Boys will be boys. Going to say stuff to each other at times that might not sit well with the other.”
A.J. Pierzynski, Kosuke Fukudome, Ramirez and Rios each contributed four runs for the White Sox. The Cubs’ batters were tumbling in front of the curveballs and seemed powerless.
