Round up: Florida Marlins clean sweep Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0
National League’s Florida Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates, both went head-to-head in an exciting three game series. Marlins did a wonderful job as they brushed aside the Pirates 3-0 in this series. Marlins have had an outstanding season so far as they attained
a satisfactory Win-Loss record during second half of the current season.
Let us take a brief look at the series.
Game 1-September 9: Florida Marlins 13 – Pittsburgh Pirates 4

Marlins managed a 13-4 win in the first game, as Ricky Nolasco was impressive with his pitching. He had five strike-outs with an ERA of 4.40 in the Marlins’ convincing victory. Nolasco was thrilled after this realistic win as he said, “It's good to get that
kind of support because you can just go out, feed strikes, get guys out and get our guys back in the dugout as quickly as possible.”
Pirates’ batters got out without adding runs. Ross Ohlendorf was expensive for the Pirates as he surrendered six runs, one home-run, 10 hits and six earned runs. He was unable to strike-out any batter on his 52 pitches.
Game 2-September 10: Florida Marlins 3 – Pittsburgh Pirates 0

In the second game, Marlins outclassed the Pirates 3-0. Marlins’ starter, Anibal Sanchez threw the ball in perfect line as he pitched nine innings and surrendered just three walks and one hit with an ERA of 3.64. Sanchez had 11 strike-outs on his 119 pitches.
Marlins’ catcher, John Buck commented on Sanchez and said, “He was getting ahead of guys with his fastball and slider, and his secondary pitchers were there. When he has that downward angle on his changeup like he did tonight, it makes it tough on either
lefties or righties.”
Emilio Bonifacio, Ben Petersen and Gaby Sanchez each singled to raise the momentum of Marlins. Conversely, Jeff Locke had a shaky day with the ball as he threw his five innings with an ERA of 5.40 and gave away five hits, three runs, four walks and three
earned runs on his 82 pitches.
Game 3-September 11: Florida Marlins 4 – Pittsburgh Pirates 1

During the last game of the series, Pirates lost by 4-1. Marlins’ short-stop, Donnie Murphy shined as he had two RBIs and went 1-for-3 with an average of .145. He improved his batting average to a great level. Petersen added the last run to give Marlins
a credible victory. Speaking to reporters, Marlins’ manager Jack McKeon said, “It's his decision. If this it for him, I'd like to see him get to 12-11 and go out a winner.”
Josh Harrison was the only player to score a run for the Pirates. But a team effort kept the Marlins on top throughout the three-game series.
