Round up: Oakland Athletics tie series 2-all against Los Angeles Angels - Part 2
Game 3: Los Angeles Angels 4 – Oakland Athletics 1
The Los Angeles Angels over powered the league rivals Oakland Athletics 4-1 in the third game of the four-game series at their home ground, Angel Stadium on May 25, to take a 2-1 lead.
The Angels’ starter, Ervin Santana, allowed only one run on six hits, walked two and struck out six batters over six innings to cement his third win of the season. Torii Hunter and Alberto Callaspo each launched a one-run homer besides two RBIs touched each
by Peter Bourjos and Reggie Willits.
The A’s starter, Trevor Cahill, yielded four runs over ten hits and walked five to bear his second win of the series. Cahill was one win away from his seventh win to become the first pitcher, who earned seven triumphs in the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
Cahill not only received a homer from Hunter, he also welcomed some words of praise from Hunter.
"Cahill is one of the best pitchers in the American League right now, and for us to come in and drive the ball and hit holes are good," Hunter said. "He made some mistakes, and he doesn't make many. You have to show some power, because some pitchers can
get comfortable if it always takes three or four hits to get a run."
Coco Crisp scored the only run from the A’s side in the fifth inning.
Game 4: Oakland Athletics 4 -- Los Angeles Angels 3
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 in game four to tie the series 2-all at Angel Stadium, Anaheim on Thursday, May 26.
Andy LaRoche scored a led off run in the second inning, then hit an RBI double before Cliff Pennington drove in a single to gain a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning.
As the batters had scored four early runs off the Angels’ starter Pineiro, who tossed six innings, until the fourth inning, Brett Anderson held the Angels scoreless throughout his spell.
"My stuff wasn't particularly better today than it was on other days, I just mixed and matched well," he said. "I can't give enough credit to my defence behind me, it was unbelievable. The defence was spectacular all day."
The 23-year-old did not yield any run on three hit, allowed three walks and struck out four batters to earn and the club’s 24th win of the season.
Mark Trumbo launched an impressive three-run homer in the second last pitch of the game before Russell Branyan flied out to centre-field putting the Angels one run short with 3-4.
