Round up: St. Louis Cardinals clean sweep Atlanta Braves 3-0
National League’s St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves, both went head-to-head in a stimulating three game series. Cardinals did an amazing job as they flattened the Braves 3-0 in this series. Cardinals have had a terrific season so far as they achieved
a reasonable Win-Loss record in the second half of the regular season.
Let us take an overview of these three exciting games.
Game 1-September 9: St. Louis Cardinals 4 – Atlanta Braves 3
Cardinals managed a 4-3 win in the first game, as Edwin Jackson was notable with his pitching. He had five strike-outs with an ERA of 3.39 in the Cardinals’ convincing victory. Albert Pujols was excited after this convincing win as he said, “Our season is
not over. All we can do is go out there and give it our best and hopefully at the end we can look back and say we gave it our best this year.”
On the other hand, Braves were able to contribute just three runs. Randall Delgado pitched well for the Braves but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just three batters on his 93 pitches and gave away three walks,
three hits and one earned run.
Game 2-September 10: St. Louis Cardinals 4 – Atlanta Braves 3
In the second game, Cardinals outclassed the Braves 4-3, again. Cardinals’ starter, Jaime Garcia pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and surrendered just three runs, eight hits, zero walks, one home-run and three earned runs on his
74 pitches. Garcia had four strike-outs with an ERA of 3.68.
Cardinals’ manager, Tony La Russa had a huge ovation for Garcia. Speaking to reporters, La Russa said, “I really thought maybe the first inning or two were as good as he's thrown this year. Then he got a couple of balls in the middle and they've got good
hitters.”
Braves’ Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla and Michael Bourn each singled to put three runs collectively on the score-board. Derek Lowe had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 4.70 and permitted nine hits, four runs, two walks and
four earned runs.
Game 3-September 11: St. Louis Cardinals 6 – Atlanta Braves 3
During final game of the series, Braves lost by 6-3. Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina shined as he hit three RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .295. La Russa said, “I feel like we are (in the race) if we keep winning. It's exciting baseball. Guys
have come through all over the roster. We got a shot.”
Chipper Jones and Jack Wilson both scored three runs collectively for the Braves. However, a team effort kept the Cardinals on top right through the three-game series.
