Round-up day 2 - McGladrey Classic
It was an eventful day at the Seaside Course, as the leaderboard continued to shuffle throughout the day. At the end, however, there was a surprise leader.
After 36-holes, Arjun Atwal, from India, shot a magnificent seven-under 63, to lead the McGladrey Classic by one shot.
Trailing the Indian is the duo of US Ryder Cuppers, Jim Furyk and Davis Love III. Both of them had decent rounds. Love shot four-under 66, whereas Jim registered one shot better than Love, with five-under 65.
Love and Jim are yet to win on the tour this season and they are right in contention for the title after the first two rounds.
They need to play similar sort of rounds on the weekend as well, if they want to have any chance of success at the Seaside Course.
"I felt a little rusty on the way in," Furyk said. "I have a lot of confidence in my ball striking right now, but when you don't play a lot, sometimes it's the course management, making the good decisions”.
Arjun Atwal, however, is in a dire situation, as he looks to secure his tour card for the next season. The Indian star is currently at the 175th spot in the money tour list and either a victory or a top-three finish will enable him to climb inside
the 125th place.
"I'm in a desperate situation," Atwal said. "I got no choice -- either win or finish in the top two. So I've just got to grind it out".
Arjun currently sits comfortably with ten-under after 36 holes. However, he must not get carried away, as there will be late charge in the tournament by many players.
He needs to shoot somewhere in the mid 60’s for the next couple of rounds if he wants to secure his PGA Tour card.
The Swede Jonas Blixt rallied on Friday to shoot three-under 67. The Frys.com Open winner managed to make the cut by just one stroke.
The world number 75 needs to finish well in the tournament if he wants to fulfill his dream of playing at the Augusta Masters. Only the top thirty in the money tour list will get an entry in the event and he is currently at the 35th place.
