Round-up day 3 - McGladrey Classic
It was a day where two of the most senior players led the field by example. Davis Love III and Jim Furyk seem to have put the disappointment of the Ryder Cup behind them, as they shot 66 on Saturday. They led the field at McGladrey Classic by two shots,
with just one round to go.
It was the third consecutive start for Love after the Ryder Cup. Since the Ryder Cup has ended, the world number 148 has been shooting some excellent rounds.
On Saturday, Love shot an eventful round of 66, which included six birdies and two bogeys. Love started off steadily at the Seaside Course, with three consecutive pars.
However, a bogey on the fourth pegged him back a little. Nevertheless, Love was not in the mood to let things slip out of his hands. Three birdies on the next four holes really set the tone up for him.
It was a similar sort of story for Davis on the back nine as well. However, a birdie on the last hole really boosted up his morale and chances for a victory.
''I can separate a lot of things, separate the Ryder Cup with its own experience,'' Love said. ''People were surprised I played the three weeks after, but I'd had some time off. I was ready to play. I haven't played enough tournaments, so it's nice to be
back in the swing of things''.
Jim Furyk, on the other hand, played a flawless and steady round of 66, which included four birdies. Jim too is winless on the tour this season.
This is probably his best chance to win on the tour. The world number 23 has been in the mix of things during most of the tournaments but his last rounds have really disappointed him.
The overnight’s leader, Arjun Atwal, could only manage a one-under 69. Atwal really needs to step up on Sunday if he wants to secure his tour card for the next season. Currently, he is standing at a T3 position and is two shots behind the two veterans.
Probably the round of the day was shot by Ben Crane. Crane shot an eight-under 62, to climb up the leaderboard. He is currently four shots behind the American duo of Love and Furyk.
