Round-up day four - Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic
This year’s Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic will always be remembered for the heroic effort put in by Charlie Beljan. He put his life at stake to secure his future on the PGA tour.
Charlie was hospitalized after his second round, as he suffered a panic attack on Friday. He did not even know if he would be able to finish the tournament.
Fighting against all the odds, he not only finished the tournament, but also nailed it. The rookie shot a mediocre round of 69 on Sunday, but it was good enough to finish atop of the leaderboard by two strokes.
His victory at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic means that, not only does he have a good bank balance, but he will also playing on all the major tournaments next season.
"Every day I drove underneath that Disney sign coming in here that said, 'Where dreams come true,' and that's just what happened this week," Beljan said after closing with a 3-under 69 for a two-shot win. "And I'm so grateful and so honored".
Charlie’s final round was eventful as the rest of the tournament. He shot three bogeys, a double bogey, and eight birdies.
"It was incredible," Beljan said. "I was happy that I was a PGA TOUR champion. I was happy that my wife and my baby were here. It still isn't real".
Beljan finished with sixteen-under for the tournament and became the fourth rookie this season to win on the PGA tour.
Matt Every and Robert Garrigus fell two strokes behind Beljan but they must have left the course with heads held up high, as they shot 68 for the day.
Charlie Wi had a disappointing end to his tournament. Although he finished at T5, but his last three rounds were below average. He failed to capitalize on his first round’s performance.
Ryuji Imada also had poor finish, as he shot the last two rounds of 72 and 73. The Japanese also started of nicely, carding a 69 and 66 in the first two rounds.
