Stage 4
Stage 4 of the Tour de France started from Lorient with a distance of 172.5 kilometres of cycling up to Mûr de Bretagne. Cadel Evans of BMC succeeded over Alberto Contador after a 1.7 kilometre attack on Mûr de Bretagnne with yet another close finish at
the Tour de France. It was really the distance of a tyre and even Cadel himself admitted “I didn’t know who had won, I couldn’t see myself.”
Alexandre Vinokourov of Astana was in the third place with Rigoberto Urán at the fourth spot and Philippe Gilbert at the fifth position.
Contador put a good fight to beat the Australian cyclist, but Evans was keen to win the first stage win at the tour and also the first Tour win for his team. Evans' performance was good, but not good enough as he was denied the yellow jersey because of a
thrilling performance by Thor Hushovd. He finished in the sixth place, but retained the yellow jersey for the third day.
John Lelangue, Director of BMC, shared his thoughts after the stage win as “A win for the whole team. We’ve now shown every one that we are here.”
Cadel Evans leads the points table with 45 points, while Alberto Contador on 35 points and Alexandre Vinokourov 30 points at the end of stage 4.
Johnny Hoogerland won the Mountain 1 classification, Cote de Laz (79 km) while Mountain 2 classification (172.5 km) was dominated by Cadel Evans earning 2 points, followed by Alberto Contador with 1 point at Mûr-de-Bretagne.
Rigoberto Uran, Roman Kreuziger and Robert Gesink were the top three young riders for the stage with Jeremy Roy as the most aggressive rider of the stage 4.
Top five players at the end of stage 4 in general classification were Thor Hushovd, Cadel Evans, Frank Schleck, David Millar and Andreas Klöden, respectively.
Jose Joaquin topped the points' table with 82 points, along with Cadel Evans' 80 points, Philippe Gilbert with 77 points, Thor Hushovd with 70 points and Tyler Farrar grabbing 68 points.
Top five cyclists for mountains classification of stage four were Cadel Evans, Philippe Gilbert, Mickaël Delage, Johnny Hoogerland and Alberto Contador, respectively.
Geraint Thomas, Edvald Boasson and Tejay Van Garderen were the top three riders for Young rider’s classification.
Team Garmin- Cervelo was leading the Teams' classification along with Sky Procycling as a runner-up, Leopard Trek at the third spot, Team RadioShack in the fourth position and HTC-Highroad in the fifth place.
