Stage 10
The closing of stage 10 witnessed some really tough cycling, as Andre Griepel beat Mark Cavendish, his former team-mate in Carmaux during a 161-kilometre stage 10.
Stage 10 of Tour de France started from Aurillac and ended in Carmaux. After finishing the stage, Andre Griepel said, ” It is an incredible feeling to win a stage in the biggest race in the world."
He further added, “When I knew that I could be part of race this year winning a stage became my goal and the team supported me in that. I think I’m the happiest person in the world at the moment.”
Sprinters classification remains unchanged after the stage 10 and Thomas Voeckler remained in the yellow jersey, Gilbert finished 14th in the sprint and stayed in the green jersey.
Stage 10 started after the first rest day of this year’s Tour de France and cyclists were expected to be energetic, enthusiastic and the weather remained dry too.
Andre Griepel finished first with Mark Cavendish in the second spot and Jose Joaquin Rojas at the third slot as the stage 10 finished. Marco Marcato was the most combative rider of stage 10 Robert Gesink, Rein Taaramae and Arnold Jeannesson were the
top three young riders.
After the stage 10 general classification Thomas Voeckler was again at the top with Luis Leon Sanchez Gil at second and Cadel Evans at number three position.
Johnny Hoogerland, Thomas Voeckler and Tejay Van were the best cyclists for stage 10 mountains classification, whereas Team Europcar, Team Leopard- Trek, Team RadioShack, Rabobank Cycling Team and Team Garmin Carvelo were the five teams leading the
general cltassification.
Stage 11
Mark Cavendish finally showed his class at the stage 11 of Tour de France as he won his 18th Tour de France win.
The 168-kilometre stage started from Blaye-les-Mines and ended at Lavaur. Cavendish finished the race with not more than half a bike length. Cavendish managed to win the green jersey which was amongst his dreams for this tour. Andre Griepel was second
followed by Tyler Farrar at the third position.
Cavendish himself did not know that he had Griepel so close to him as he said, “I just went. I said I’d kick and when I kick I normally get a gap. I made the mistake of not hitting it hard yesterday. My danger is my acceleration and if I do that, I
get a gap and can hold that.”
Cavendish finished first with 45 points, Andre Greipel on the second spot with 35 points and Tyler Farrar third with 30 points, while Mickael Delage was the most aggressive rider of the stage.
Top players at the end of stage 11 general classifications were Thomas Voeckler, Luis Leon Sanchez and Cadel Evans respectively. Team Europcar at first, Leopard Trek and Team RadioShack at was at third position after the end of stage 11 in overall
classifications.
