Round-up of Wednesday’s Premier League results
Despite not playing on the day, the biggest winner in Wednesday’s round of matches was undoubtedly Manchester United. The Red Devils opened up a two point gap at the summit of the Barclays Premier League, with two games still in hand over their closest rivals.
Here's a recap of all of Wednesday’s results.
Arsenal 0 – Manchester City 0:
Manchester City came to the Emirates stadium apparently aiming for a draw. Roberto Mancini’s charges were content to sit back and defend for the duration of the match. Arsenal came close to breaking the deadlock, hitting the post on two occasions; however,
City held on to walk away with a point.

A spirited http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 side handed Chelsea their sixth defeat of the season, effectively ending their chances of retaining the title. An own goal by Jose Bosingwa was enough to hand all three points to Mick Mcarthy’s side, bringing them out of the relegation
zone for the first time in weeks.
Aston Villa 0 – Sunderland 1:
Sunderland battled their way to a deserved victory at Villa Park after Phil Bardsley’s shot somehow ended up in the back of the net. It was a scrappy affair which saw both sides reduced to ten men; however, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce won’t care. The
result sees the Black Cats jump into sixth place in the Barclays Premier League.
Blackburn 3 – Liverpool 1:
Roy Hodgson found himself under increased pressure after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Olsson-c24423 all but ensured the points for Steve Kean’s side. Liverpool
gave the home side a scare after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 pulled one back in the 80th minute, but it wasn’t enough to spur a comeback. Liverpool drop down into 12th place, just 4 points away from the relegation zone.
Everton 2 – Tottenham 1:
Tottenham’s title hopes were dealt a huge blow after goals by Seamus Coleman and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Louis-Saha-c22459 took Everton to only their third win at Goodison Park this season. Harry Redknapp’s ambitious team remains in fourth place, eight points behind leaders Manchester
United.
Newcastle 5 – West Ham 0:
West Ham stayed rooted to the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table after a humiliating thrashing at St. James Park. A hat-trick by Leon Best capped off a wonderful performance by the Magpies, who now move up to eighth place in the League table. It
seems that the Hammers will need a miracle to save them from relegation this season.
Bolton 1 – Wigan 1:
Bolton stumbled yet again in their quest for European football after they were held to a disappointing draw at the Reebok stadium. The Trotters now find themselves in seventh place. Meanwhile, the result was not quite enough for Wigan to climb out of the
relegation zone, who remain in 19th place.
