Whats the difference between a roundhouse and a tornado kick? Any suggestions on which one is easier to learn or does more damage?

  1. it depends on the art your using. however, basically, the roundhouse is a 'turning' kick, where you turn your body mass into the direction of the kick, to deliver a quick and strong kick.

the tornado on the other hand, is a 'spinning' / 'jumping' kick, where you spin in a full circle, before jumping up and delivering a kick. This kick is much harder to use than a roundhouse, and will, properly trained, be much more powerful, thus causing more damage.

A roundhouse kick is simple, yet powerful. A tornado kick is powerful, but takes time to recover after the kick, and therefore you must chain it with another kick, such as a spinning hook kick, to ensure that if you miss with the tornado, another attack is going to keep the opponent busy, and thus stop them from attacking you.

in the end, the choice is yours. my advice? learn both of them. don't use fancy high kicks. chest/ribs are the highest, effective points you want to hit in a real fight.

  2. My friend, if you are kicking above the waist, you are already wasting your time.

  3. round house explains its self

tornado say if you want to kick with the right foot take left knee turn around and kick with the right foot well obviously the tornado is gunna do more damage but if your not good with it stick with round house

  4. A tornado kick varies between styles, in Wushu/Long Fist, this is a tornado kick:

While in Taekwondo, this would be one:

The tornado kick is obviously more difficult than a roundhouse, due to the spinning start and the fact that it's a flying kick. The spin to the start of the tornado kick gives it more momentum and power behind the blow, but takes longer to recover. I'm going to assume that you know what a roundhouse kick is throughout the answer, if not...:

  5. The tornado kick arguably generates more power than the roundhouse but is a low percentage move.  It can land on rare occasion but often fails because telegraphing the move is impossible to escape.  The roundhouse is easier to learn and is a great, high percentage bread and butter move.  The power generated from a proper roundhouse is good enough.

  6. It's hard to explain in words so i'll explain in two videos.

    Tornado Kick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWVL3YcWS...

Also, Tornado Kick and Roundhouse basically come from different types of Martial Arts.

  7. Who cares? You wouldn't want to use either in a real fight anyway.
