The Los Angeles Angels’ starter Jered Weaver tossed one-run seven innings to take his club into second-straight win 2-1 over the Florida Marlins in three-game interleague series-opener at Sun Life Stadium, on Monday, June 20.
Weaver earned his ninth win, allowing just one run in the second inning to the Marlins’ Dewayne Wise. His opponent Anibal Sanchez threw a one-run seven innings as he allowed only a single run in the sixth inning to Angels’ Torii Hunter. Sanchez took eight
batters, which is two more than Weaver’s six but was unfortunate not to gain a win.
The Angels’ Hunter made an RBI single against the Marlins’ reliever Steve Cishek in the eighth inning to take the game 2-1.
Game 2: Pitchers bring Florida Marlins back into series with 5-2 win over Los Angeles Angels
The Florida Marlins’ pitchers held the Angels strong batting line-up to just two runs as the club overpowered the interleague rivals Angels 5-2 in the second outing on Tuesday, June 21.
Starter Javier Vazquez struck-out four batters without allowing any run though he gave ten hits, but managed to earn his fourth win. Edwards Mujica tossed one scoreless inning, Ryan Choate tossed just nine pitches for no-score and Burke Badenhop gave one
hit and struck-out two batters over one inning.
Jose Ceda allowed two runs to the Angels in the ninth inning over his 18 pitches but Loe Nunez saved the game with his fast pitches.
While on bat, g*y Sanchez launched a one-run hit in the first inning for a 1-0 lead and Omar Infante took it to 2-0 with an RBI single in the second. Mike Stanton scored an RBI each in the sixth and the eighth inning while Infante made his RBI in the eighth
inning to take it to 5-0.
Angels’ starter Ervin Santana allowed two runs on five innings, Ryan Thompson gave a single while Michael Kohn scattered two runs in one inning. Closer Bobby Cassevah did not allow a run in the last inning but the Marlins had taken the game into their side.
Game 3: Los Angeles Angels take 6-5 win in tenth inning for 2-1 series win
The Los Angeles Angels overpowered their rivals in the rubber game by 6-5, on Wednesday, June 22.
Despite the Angels piling up four runs in the third inning, they could not build enough pressure over the Marlins and allowed them to tie the series, as it was 5-all until the bottom of the eighth inning. Angels’ Mark Izturis and Bobby Abreu each launched
a homer while Torii Hunter scored an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Marlins’ Hanley Ramirez scored an RBI single in the first, Infante and Emilio Bonifacio in the fourth while Ramirez scored another RBI in the seventh inning to tie it to 4-all. The Angels’ Hank Conger took it again to 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth inning
that the Marlins’ Wise tied to 5-all in the bottom of the eighth inning.
After a scoreless ninth inning, the Angels’ Mark Trumbo blistered a hard hit to centre-field for a game leading RBI single in the top of the tenth inning to take his team into another series win.
